RIYADH — The Saudi Royal Air Defense Forces on Thursday afternoon intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired by Iran-backed Houthi militias from Saada in Yemen towards the city of Khamis Mushayt, in the southern part of the Kingdom.

No injuries were reported, Saudi Press Agency reported, quoting the official spokesman of the Coalition Col. Turki Al-Malki.

The Air Defense Forces of the Coalition detected the launching of a ballistic missile at 15:09 hours Thursday by Houthi militias from Saada city in Yemen towards Saudi territories.

The missile, fired towards Khamis Mushayt city and targeting civilian areas, was intercepted and destroyed by Saudi Royal Air Defense Forces. Thanks to Allah, no casualties were reported, Col. Al-Malki said.

He added that this hostile act by the Iranian-supported terrorist Houthi militias proves the continued involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting the armed Houthi militias with qualitative capabilities, in clear defiance of UN Security Council Resolutions 2216 and 2231 in order to threaten the security of Saudi Arabia and destabilize regional and international security.

He stressed that the firing of ballistic missiles towards cities and villages contravenes humanitarian international law. – SPA
