RIYADH — Rich tributes were paid to Shaikhul-Hadith Maulana Abdul Haque Azmi who passed away last week in India at the age of 88.

Mulana Azmi served India’s world-renowned seminary Darul Uloom Deoband for 34 years teaching the science of Hadith and Bukhari Sharif, said Inamul Haq Qasmi in a condolence meeting held by the alumni this week. 
 
Highlighting Maulana Azmi’s contribution to spreading Islamic education, Qasmi said after completing graduation from Darul Uloom Deoband in Hadith and Islamic Jurisprudence in 1948 he taught in many prestigious religious institutes of India, including Madrasah Dar Ul Uloom Maunath Bhanjan in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Mulana Azmi was born in 1928 in Jagdishpur, a town in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh.

Many other participants including Abdul Bari Qasmi, Fakhruddin Qasmi, Dr. Mohammad Najeeb Qasmi, Abdul Matin Qasmi, Arshad Qasmi and Shan-e-Ilahi Qasmi spoke on various aspects of Maulana Azmi’s life and his 66-year-long glorious services in the field of Islam.

Prominent among the participants in the meeting were Haroon Qasmi, Lutfullah Qasmi, Mahfooz Ahmad Qasmi and Mohammad Saleem.

The meeting began with the recitation of the verses of Holy Qur’an by Qari Ihtishamul Haque and concluded with the poetic tribute by an Urdu poet, Mansoor Ahmad Qasmi.
