DUBAI — The authorities in the United Arab Emirates have decided to postpone 2020 International Baja, which was scheduled to take place from April 2-4 over coronavirus fears.

“In view of the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and increased travel restrictions, we have taken the decision to postpone 2020 Dubai International Baja,” a statement issued on behalf of Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the Emirates Motorsports Organization, the rally organizers, and FIA vice president for Sport, read.

“We are now working closely with the FIA and the FIM, motor sport’s world governing bodies, in order to find new dates for the event to take place in the November-December period,” the statement added.

Earlier another top global motorsport event, Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, which was slated to take place from March 21-26, was postponed.

“As organizer of the two events, we have been in permanent contact with the government authorities in the UAE and are following all precautionary measures to safeguard the health and safety of the motor sport community and the general public,” the statement further said.
