Houthi-fired missile intercepted over Jazan

Col. Turki Al-Maliki

RIYADH – The Saudi Royal Air Defense Forces on Tuesday intercepted a ballistic missile launched by Iran-backed Houthi militias targeting the southern city of Jazan.

Col. Turki Al-Malki, spokesman of the Coalition to restore legitimacy in Yemen, said that the missile was launched deliberately from Saada governorate of Yemen to target densely populated civilian areas of Jazan.

“At 12.40 p.m. the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces detected the launch of the missile and successfully intercepted and destroyed it. The debris fell in residential areas of the city, but without causing casualties,” Al-Malki said.

“This hostile action by the Houthi militia proves the Iranian regime’s continued involvement in supporting the armed group in clear and explicit defiance of the UN resolutions with the aim of threatening the security of Saudi Arabia, the region and the world,” he added. -- SG/SPA
